How to Clean and Maintain A Freestanding Bathtub

With just a few simple cleaning tasks, your new freestanding bathtub and its gorgeous finish will retain its beauty for years to come.

Caution

Mild cleaners will likely work on most construction debris. Denatured alcohol or non-abrasive cleaners should handle more stubborn debris. If plaster, dry caulk or other substances remain on the surface, try to gently remove them with a sharpened wooden stick. See our Prohibited List for the use of wire brushes, putty knives and other potentially damaging tools.

Please wipe the tub with a soft cloth after each use. It only takes a few moments to prevent unsightly water stains and keep it sparkling clean between uses.

Always wipe away dust and dry dirt with a soft, damp cloth. If the bathtub has not been used for a while, wipe it quickly with a damp cloth and then dry it with a soft, dry cloth and the bathtub will soon regain its shine.

Please rinse the bathtub after using bath oil. This will help prevent unwanted dirt and sediment from settling in your tub.

Be sure to set up a regular cleaning schedule. Now that your bathtub is ready for daily use, it's time to establish a cleaning routine. Make sure you're done. Your resin freestanding bathtub will have a semi-gloss or matte finish. Make sure you specify which finish you are using, because while the necessary cleaning instructions are similar, you need to be aware of one key difference: matte finishes can withstand mild scrub cleaners, while semi-gloss finishes cannot.

To clean a freestanding tub with a semi-gloss finish, use a mild detergent, or a mild dishwashing detergent. Do not use abrasive cleaners, pads or cream cleaners with grit.

Follow the cleaning product manufacturer's instructions and precautions - and read your labels. For example, if you have a freestanding acrylic tub, make sure the product label states that the product is safe to use for cleaning acrylic.

After cleaning, rinse and dry the freestanding tub thoroughly. Rinse off the cleaning residue and wipe the tub with a soft bathtub wipe so that your next tub is free of unwanted cleaners and cleaning chemicals.

Do not use acidic cleaners, as they will corrode the stone resin. This includes vinegar, which is commonly used in DIY home cleaning solutions.

Do not use any harsh chemicals or petroleum-based products such as paint thinners or solvents for this purpose. These can damage the surface and make your tub look uneven, dull and lifeless. Other substances to avoid include gasoline, kerosene, nail polish, nail polish remover, holly oil, pine oil, dry cleaning fluid, etc.
Do not use rough cleaning cloths, metal scrubbers, razor blades or other sharp materials that could scratch the surface.

Clean oil, paint, grease or ink stains. These stubborn stains can be removed with topical alcohol. After removing stains, be sure to rinse and dry with a clean, soft cloth.

Pay attention to the maintenance of your water heater. If you notice rust, deposits or greasy substances, your water heater may need to be drained. Drain and rinse the water heater according to the manufacturer's instructions, then clean the freestanding tub as described above.
